Skelwith Force waterfallOne of the smaller Lake District waterfalls, Skelwith Force is also one of the easiest to reach, yet it remains reltively unknown, and lightly visited.. To reach the falls, turn off the main A593 Coniston to Amblesiide road at Skelwith Bridge (signposted to Elterwater and The Langdales), Park at Silverbridge parking area about 1/2 miles up the road on the right. A parking fee applies. From the car park, cross the road and join the path opposite. Go through a gate and at a T junction turn left to follow the river. The walk is very level and easy going. The falls are only a 1/4 mile along, down a short path to the right. The drop is not great, but the sheer volume of water can be impressive, especially after a heavy rain. A walk to Skelwith Force can easily be combined with the popular level walk from Skelwith to Elter Water. This is a lovely walk - stroll really - on level ground, with the beauty of the Langdale pikes ahead of you. Location map for Skelwith Force
