Getting around in the Lake District
The National Park has an excellent bus service which can be very useful for walkers, allowing you to get to your starting point or back from your finish point with relative ease.

If you come during the main tourist months of June-August, be aware that the sheer volume of traffic can cause long delays travelling by road around the Lake District. Roads through the National park can be very narrow, and the number of cars on those roads can cause major slowdowns. The best way to deal with this is to leave lots of time to get to your destination. Parking is a matter of concern also; because of the narrow roads there are very few places where you can simply park on the verge without obstructing traffic, so you will often be limited to paid parking lots. Many of these are owned by the National Trust, so if you are a Trust member you may be able to park for free (make sure to bring along your membership card to display inside your windscreen). Even so, fndng a parking spot can be difficult in the high season, especially in popular areas like the Langdale valley near Ambleside, or along Derwentwater south of Keswick. The best way to ensure you get a parking place is to get to your destination early in the day.
