Fowey Heritage Snapshot
The parish church of Fowey is dedicated to St Finn Barr. The saint was an early 7th century Bishop of Cork in Ireland. On a trip to Rome, Finn Barr stayed in Fowey, and built a church here. The church was rededicated in 1336 to St Nicholas of Bari, but the new name failed to gain popularity with the inhabitants, who were quite happy to stick with 'their' old Celtic saint!
