About Cornwall
Cornwall is one of the top destinations for visitors to the UK, and for Brits looking for someplace closer to home than the hot spots of the Med! The climate is more moderate than most areas of the UK, and this is reflected in the fact that sub-tropical gardens prosper along the more sheltered south coast. The north coast is more rugged, and gets stronger winds, a fact which makes the beaches along this section of the coast very popular with surfers. Many stretches of Cornwall's coast are protected as 'Heritage Coasts' (see our guide to Heritage Coasts in the UK). Some of the most scenic walks in Britain can be found along the Cornish coast as well. For example, our family has enjoyed the short walk from Boscastle to Tintagel, where the ruins of the old castle associated with King Arthur still cling to the cliffs. The Britain Express family has stayed and enjoyed the lovely fishing port of Porthleven, and the more rugged area around Crackington Haven, but I'd have to say, though, that the area around Mounts Bay is my favourite spot in Cornwall. The site of the summer sun setting around St Michael's Mount as the tide begins to cover the cobbled causeway to the castle, is one you will never forget if you have the pleasure to see it. Its well worth the visit.
