 Walmer Castle and Gardens
  

Gardens surrounding a Tudor artillery fort that later became the official resience of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports. The moats of the fort were filled in and planted with flowers; there are woodland walks, herbaceous borders, a working kitchen garden, and yew hedges.

 Wentworth Castle
  

50 acres of Grade 1 listed gardens recently restored to their full glory. The gardens are largely 18th century, created by the Earls of Strafford, and form one of the most important historical gardens in the country. Wentworth was featured on the television series 'Restoration'. The gardens feature 26 listed buildings and monuments, including a dramatic castle folly offering superb views across the surrounding countryside.

Carefully preserved rococco landscape garden by Sir Francis Dashwood is the perfect counterpart to the theatrical, Italianate home he created in the mid-18th century. There is no shortage of statues and grottoes, and the ornamental lake reflects the mature trees of the park.

Westonbirt Arboretum 17,000 numbered trees and 17 miles of paths in this excellent arboretum run by the Forestry Commission. Best in : spring for rhododendron and magnolias, and autumn for Japanese maples and fothergilla.

 Wilton House
We had the pleasure of visiting here, and our information is based on our personal experiences  

Wilton House Four new gardens were added to Wilton by the late 17th Earl: the North Forecourt, Old English Rose, Water and Cloister gardens. However, gardening has a long history at Wilton; starting in 1632 Isaac De Caus set out on an ambitious plan for extensive water gardens, taking advantage of the estate's location on the River Nadder. A Palladian bridge was constructed over the river in 1737 by the ninth Earl.

There is more to Winkworth than trees; it is a hillside garden featuring over 1000 different species of plant. Winkworth was created by Dr Wilfrid Fox in the mid-20th century. It features lovely Spring and Autmun colour, a wetland area with boardwalks, and many rare species.
