Larmer Tree Gardens

Taking their name from the ancient traditional boundary between Dorset and Wiltshire, the Larmer Tree Gardens are the 1880 creation of General Pitt Rivers. The first privately owned gardens to be opened for public enjoyment, these 11 acres of pleasure grounds overlooking the Cranborne Chase contain an interesting collection of Victorian buildings, from a Roman temple to Nepalese rooms. Camillias and Rhododendrons brighten the woodland spring, while hydrangeas and Eucryphias are striking in midsummer. Lovely autumn colour, providing year-round interest for the visitor.

Lost Gardens of Heligan

Heligan was the family seat of the TRemaynes for over 400 years. By the early 20th century the house fell into neglect and the gardens were allowed to become overgrown. Now an ambitious reclamation scheme has pushed back the years and allows visitors to see these glorious slumbering gardens as they once were. The most exciting part of the restored gardens is the Pleasure Grounds, a network of exciting garden features linked by winding paths.
