Our Favourite UK Places

Our Favourite UK Places

Everyone has favourite places in the UK - these are the personal picks of Britain Express editors; the places we have enjoyed visiting most in the course of our travels.

Salisbury Cathedral

Anglesey - The Isle of Anglesey is one of the most beautiful - and relatively uncrowded - corners of Wales.

Bath - Bath deserves it reputation as one of the best travel destinations in England. Here's a look at what to see and do.

Brecon Beacons - One of the great walking areas in Britain

Caernarfon - The northern Welsh port of Caernarfon is famous as the home of Caernarfon Castle, built by Edward I.

Cardigan - Exploring the historic port of Cardignan, Wales.

Cheltenham - One of the most elegant old spa towns in England, reknown for its Regency architecture.

Chester - Reknown for its lovely half-timbered houses and its Roman heritage.

Ely - Historic Ely Cathedral is one of the true architectural marvels of Medieval England, but don't overlook the rest of Ely!

Hereford - Rich in beautiful half-timbered houses and a wealth of other fine historic buildings.

Ironbridge - World Heritage Site, famous for its iron-smelting industrial past.

Lincoln - Home to one of the finest cathedrals in England, and a wealth of other historic attractions.

Mendips - One of South West England's undiscovered gems. Though Cheddar can be crowded, the Mendips offer much more to reward the traveler.

Norwich - A feast of medieval art and architecture.

Old Sarum - The ancient settlement where Salisbury began.

Salisbury - The lovely Cathedral gets most of the press, but Salisbury has more than just the Cathedral to offer visitors.

Vale of White Horse - From ancient ruins to medieval treasures, peaceful villages to mysterious hill figures, the Vale of White Horse is one of England's undiscoverd delights.

Wells - The smallest city in England, and home to the magnificent Wells Cathedral.

Wensleydale - Rural Wensleydale and the Yorkshire Dales, dissected by centuries-old dry stone walls, is a peaceful haven for visitors.

Winchcombe - This Cotswold village is surrounded by fascinating places to visit, including Sudeley Castle, final home of Catherine Parr.
